“Duffie’s defense attorney told the court he lives in a shelter and has a child.”

Great. Possibly another child growing up in the foster care system as no sane judge will allow this man to have custody. Let’s hope relatives are around and willing to take the kid in, what a shame. This man is worst than scum of the earth

I was thinking that maybe he has joint custody with the victim here. But rereading this has me realizing that the child is probably with another woman who is not involved in this case. You can still have joint custody of your kid if you’re in prison. But it makes me feel a bit better this man is prob going away for life and the other woman is safe.

I doubt he has custody if he's living in the shelter system

? Plenty of kids live in these shelters, some raised by single parent

Correct. There are family shelters. I took this from my read of the sentence. "Has one child." I could be wrong but I feel like if he lived in the family shelter system with his child the sentence "Duffie’s defense attorney told the court he lives in a shelter and has a child." Doesn't to the job.

I admit. I don't know. But this doesn't feel like he had custody. I feel like at the very least thst would have come up

You can have custody of your own children if you live in shelters. A permanent address is not a requirement.
