My parents lived on Opal st back in the 70's. They insist on pronouncing it OH-PAL, instead of oh-pul, like the gemstone. My brothers and I make fun of them for it. Was that a South Philly thing or are they just weird?

i used to live right across the street from where OP took this picture and when i lived there (from 2015-2021) everyone still called it OH-PAL 🤣

My first reaction to this photo was just astounded at the amount of vehicle litter lol. So depressing to live in the middle of a parking lot, but when every street is a parking lot….

I live in this neighborhood and they all cal it oh-Pal and they pronounce Oregon Ave as Ar-gon Ave
