Hi all!

I'm a new dad of an 8-day old and I am now starting the hunt for daycares - were gonna need it come July/August. I live in the Bella Vista area and I'm a little amazed at how hard it is to find out about daycares (Google is surprisingly not useful).

I was wondering if anyone knew of any list that exists of daycares nearby that I can scout out, and greatly appreciate any assistance!

Thanks!

Congratulations! We used NAEYC accredited programs for our little one when he was in daycare and preschool. While not the only option, it’s a strong indicator of a high-quality school. Here is a list of NAEYC accredited programs in Philly: https://ais.naeyc.org/search_programs/results/Philadelphia/PA/0/10/0/0/0/us/0

We were very pleased with our son’s time in NAEYC schools (one in Pgh and one here). In Philly, specifically, we went to Children’s Village in Chinatown, which I really can’t say enough good things about. It was such a good experience that both my son and his teachers cried on his last day. We had a little goodbye tour of every classroom he was in while there. He was safe, loved, and allowed to push himself as far as he wanted to go academically.

Good luck! I remember the days of daycare searching and it isn’t easy.

Better do it soon. Pretty much all places have a long wait list

Welcome to the Dad club. Congrats

Do you need one soon? There are only some that take kids under a year and it’s really hard to get a slot

We bring our 9 month old to the Friends Child Care Center at 15th and Cherry - we too are in BV and it’s a haul

When our son was under 1 he went to The Giving Tree on Bainbridge at 5. It was ok

Busy Bees also takes sub 1 kids, they are in Washington Square. We are on a waitlist there though for our daughter

Options expand a lot as your kid ages

Good luck!

If you’re on Facebook, highly recommend joining South Silly Parents! Lots of great info in there and recommendations for daycares

Congrats! Hopefully you’re getting some great quality time with your new baby. I have a 2 year old and a 7 month old and the time flies, it felt like we just brought home our first one from the hospital.

We used the keystone stars database for an objective way to find programs that we liked that also had availability. Personally, find it difficult to take FB, Google, etc reviews of places. This database has several metrics to assess programs. From there, we contacted schools/daycares to setup appointments and tours and joined waitlists for the ones we liked.

We have our older one in a toddler program at the Aspen Grove school on 16th and Christian. I know they take newborns there and they just increased capacity/caregivers to take on more newborns. Wherever you go, start searching/applying now! We were on a waitlist for our older one for the longest time at several places before there was an opening in the current program.
