Nope named after the projects and school, where mlk once spoke. Very 60s are term occasionally still used

It's been Hawthorne since before you were born. The old school building at 11th and Washington was the Hawthorne School, and the projects to the north were called Hawthorne Square. The name got attached to the whole surrounding area.

Its a term used widely in the past. Once they demo hawthorne projects it lost usage

Side note: the tooth brush section at target across the street has an awesome view of the massive construction site.
