I’d still take it over another office in KOP or Mt Laurel

I wouldn't say the edge of Camden; it's mainly just been vastly underinvested in. There has been some bigger talk about developing Gateway into something more mixed use and maybe adding infill stations for PATCO and the River Line.

I haven’t worked in that area since the pandemic but I remember signs for a hotel and some retail were up across from Subaru for years. I’m sure Covid delayed those plans I’m beyond skeptical this news will change that.

It’s right near Rutgers Camden. The area surrounding Rutgers Camden is so dangerous the cops told us we were on our own 😂
Dryheavemorning t1_j4xh5ia wrote
No, it's not. Rutgers Camden is in the cooper grant neighborhood and this is in Gateway. They're separated by a highway. The area around Rutgers is very safe, there are 3 different police departments, you must have talked to one of the County cops or just made that up.
Hipster-Stalin t1_j4yyade wrote
Lol that’s exactly what I hear as well… Rutgers PD, Camden PD, and some federal since the courthouse is nearby. Area around Rutgers is safe especially because of everything else that is down there.

Ahhh I believe last time I was on campus the office was in the waterfront but I could be mistaken. Either way the Dunkin, Mancinis and the Chinese spot maybe 6 blocks from my old house were sketchier than anywhere I’ve been in Philly 😂. Fall 2012 the Rutgers police officers told a room of 100 of us “ if you go over there we aren’t coming from you”

I think we just vary on the definition of "surroundings" Rutgers. I was talking about Cooper Grant and the waterfront. Yeah a bit further away is really sketchy. I was in law school there around the same time as you.

Stop listening to idiot cops

They fired their police force in 2013 essentially. So what you experienced from them is entirely possible. It isn't like that anymore and had been a model. Once Camden was taken over by the state after consecutive mayor's went to jail it improved. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-jersey-city-disbanded-its-police-force-here-s-what-n1231677

Wasn't there a canned Pepper Pot Soup under the Bookbinder's label? The Snapper Soup was incredible.

I remember that snapper soup, it was a substantial soup. Bully.

They have a great campus as it is, will be curious to see how it improves. Unfortunately the place is still a shithole to work for.

ETA: Campbell's is a LOT more diversified than I realized.

EDIT: this is the updated list
> Campbell's product portfolio includes food brands such as Pepperidge Farm, Goldfish, V8, Bolt House Farms, Swanson Broths, as well as Prego and Pace. In 2019, the company sold a variety of brands. Among these were Arnott’s, Kjeldsens, Royal Dansk, and Garden Fresh Gourmet.

Whoa I had no idea Campbell's also supplied the world's grandmothers with sewing supplies.
LFKhael t1_j4w6hm1 wrote
Inky might be incorrect. Royal Dansk seems to have been sold to Ferrero back in 2019-ish.
hockeystuff77 t1_j4w7qan wrote
I pulled that from a dated article. Looks like they sold off a couple brands in 2019
shlem90 t1_j4xmnsp wrote
They sold off all their international business then including Royal Dansk.
hockeystuff77 t1_j4xmums wrote
Yea and arnott’s unfortunately. Tim tams are the shit

I messed up my first Tim Tam Slam but it was still delicious. They are so good.
bierdimpfe t1_j4w65xc wrote
Woah, I genuinely had no idea Campbell's owned all those brands, nor that widespread.

This is great news for the area but the CEO's quote about "bring[ing] a level of energy to Camden" probably should have added "our office in" prior to "Camden." They are in an isolated office park right by a highway on the edge of Camden and the vast majority of its workers commute without ever leaving the office park.
