But in Canada you can't get those items for 50c. Which is why the conversion rate thing is a bad way of comparing living quality. It's probably close to $5-6 for that in Canada, like in the U.S and min wage is around $7.50. So, you both work an hour to earn enough in your own country for a junk food snack. Which, sucks. It should be like 15m tops for enough money for a soda and chips.

Well let's consider the imported goods in Iran, like phones, laptops, most basic ingredients for home furniture, and other goods.
An average family of 3, needs savings, laptop or at least a phone (due to covid and the aftermath of the revolution, many classes are still held online) for studying, paying bills, paying loan bills (because no one can support their family with the wages alone), and many more necessary expenses leaves many families in debt.
The poverty line in Iran is almost 4,5 times the average salary. And I do mean average not minimum wage.
