Mint is really cheap and setup of an esim (using an iPhone) was simple. It uses T-Mobile of which is solid in Pittsburgh.

Is cell service a requirement? There are a bunch of esim providers that offer data only. Airalo, for example.

six weeks is burner phone/sim/esim territory.

get a burner from target, walmart, walgreens, etc.

That's interesting. I thought iMessage doesn't require a phone number, just an Apple ID, since it uses data?

Reference: I used a data-only esim overseas and iMessage was my primary method of communication.

I am also looking into this as Verizon was $80 a month to add another line. i was bummed to see the $90 eSIM fee as i went to check out. I came here to reddit to see there are any providers which have a more reasonable price for what seems to be a randomly generated code lol
