Troughs are a necessary evil to maximize restroom throughput at large venues.

In terms of lowest building cost but in today’s world with $2B stadiums they can easily afford enough extra urinals to make up for the few lost spots.

Also they’re terrible for the environment because they have to run water constantly instead of only when in use.

I assume they only run when there's an event. And then, it's only a trickle. I bet water use is similar to a flush urinal.

I've never had to wait for a toilet at Heinz Field with the troughs. Just found a gap and went.
