I’m looking for a day trip, and Redbank creek seems like a nice paddle. Google maps shows a lot of shallow areas and exposed rocks but it seems like levels may have just been low. Does anyone know what the sweet spot is for flow? There are some other good choices around, but for some reason Redbank just looks like fun. Hoping anyone who has paddled this could fill me jn.

Thanks!

I’ve done some sections of it — it’s largely passable when the St Charles gauge (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/03032500/#parameterCode=00065&period=P7D) is around 4 feet. I think I’ve done it when it was about 3 feet with one section around Summerville that my canoe was dragging.

Thanks for the info. I’ll keep an eye on the gauge!

Check out the canoe shop in Ridgway. I think its called Lazy River. It's only a little ways north and is on the Clarion River. Been a few years but we used to do day and weekend trips. They'll come pick you up and drive you back up to the shop when you take out.

Can't speak for Redbank, but can recommend the Conemaugh / Kiski river in Saltsburg. You can go from Conemaugh Dam to Saltsburg or Saltsburg to Avonmore or Salina or Avonmore to Apollo depending on how long you want to stay in. About an hour drive from the city.

I’m also curious about redbank. I’ve bike the trail a bunch, and Ive been trying to float it for smallmouth bass fishing. The section between the mouth and new Bethlehem is gorgeous and some sections seem pretty remote. Looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Little beaver creek, Lisbon to the Ohio. Maybe not this year but I had a trip planned for this spring…. French creek and Allegheny river south of the dam are also possible options
