I left mine at 65, but do not turn off the heat, especially during the winter. You don't want to not be home and have something bad happen because the heat was off.

Also ideally don't post when you'll be out of town on the internet. Just say "I'm traveling for a week in the winter" keep it vague.

I also went and got smart outlet plugs so I could operate some of the lights while I was away from home.

Definitely leave it on so your pipes don’t freeze. I usually do 65 because I have a cat, but you can probably go lower if you don’t have pets.

Judging from what he’s written on Reddit he lives in an apartment without a Ring doorbell in Squirrel Hill. He’s recently at least thought about buying expensive electronics and owns a bike.

do not turn the heat off your pipes could freeze. keep the heat on and above freezing. this will prevent your pipes from freezing. i recommend maybe 50. but anything above 40ish will work.

If you've got house plants, no lower than 60. I usually do 62 just in case one of them is in a drafty area.

Other than that, as low as you can with a comfortable margin above freezing. I don't think most thermostats go below the 50s.

If you have pets or house plants that need warmth, I’d go 65. If not, maybe 60?

Pipes generally won't freeze until it is in the low 20s at the highest. Whenever I have had pipes burst it has been below 10 for at least 24 hours (3 times for those counting).

There are no nights below 20 in the 10 day forecast and all days are above freezing.

I would set it as low as you are comfortable with (45-55) but set the fan to always run - this will help with air settling in an area potentially being colder.

I usually set vacant homes at 58-62 when they are vacant. (Contractor that is a landlord and occasional fix and flip guy - I always have at least 1 vacant house.)
