Depends how far you are from the restaurant but unless you’re like 5 or more miles away 10 is really pretty good

Also if you have big stuff like cases of water or live on the top of an apartment a bit extra is appreciated

Alright, I’m glad I’m thinking of it the right way, and appreciate your input.

For instance, the pizza I always get is about 5 minutes away, and my house is easy to get to; No navigating an apartment. I usually do minimum $10, or a general 25-30% on food.

Walmart orders; I’m about 10 minutes from the store. I’ve been doing a $20 tip for a $150-200 order of misc. household/hygiene stuff, and maybe a case of water. If I can do better, I want to know.

If you’re doing a far distance I say 15%. Sounds like you are already going above and beyond! :)

I usually tip $10 for whatever delivery and most are very short. A few times the person has said it made their day. A couple people have gone above and beyond a few times so I doubled it and they appreciated it. Unfortunately putting even minimal directions on orders aren't read often so I'm finding it harder to tip that much. Do drivers usually read the comments on orders or just ignore them?

One thing to consider is the fact that Uber doesn't show the driver the full tip amount if it's over $8, so even if you tip $20 the driver will only see the delivery request as the delivery fee +$8, then 1 hour after the delivery the full tip amount gets paid.

As a former drive who still hangs around the DD/UE subs here, general consensus is a few things. $2 per mile, or nothing under a $6-8 pay range for the order for a "reasonable" distance (which really depends on your market TBH it seems)

Your tips sound good, and I would have taken your orders (well not Walmart... but that is a different story all together when it was DD who did them!)

But there are a couple other things to keep in mind also esp if you are using a platform and not just say.. ordering from Pizza Hut or Papa Johns (who btw.. actually do use DD/UE to delver also..) and the main one is WHERE you are ordering from. 95% of Taco Bells, Popeyes, Arby's, you could offering me and many others a $50 tip for 3 miles and it won't get picked up. If you order from somewhere because the staff is so horrible you don't want to go yourself... tip even more! I say this as someone who has had to argue and yell to get staff to give me food at fast food places, and once was even told by a manager that I would have to wait until every single person who came in AFTER me to pick up and wasn't a delivery would order (4 of them...) , and get their food before they would hand me the already packed bags with a milkshake melting.

What? A 50$ tip isnt good enough for Taco Bell?
