You shouldn't have been in the left lane.... Drive right, pass left. If someone comes up behind you while your in the left lane move to the right and just let them pass.

I was in the right lane. The cop in an unmarked car was in the left. If I slowed down he slowed down, if I sped up he sped up. It was unnerving.
