What are the rings made of? Depending on the metal type you can do it at home, using simple chemistry, and have sparkling clean rings in no time.

Platinum. I'm good at getting them clean enough, but getting the stones cleaned and metal polished up would be good after a decade.

FWIW platinum is easily cleaned in a solution of cold water and ammonia in a 1:1 ratio. Let it sit for 30 minutes and use a soft bristle toothbrush for residual tarnish. My wedding band stays blindingly shiny :) (I clearly have no jeweler recommendations - happy hunting!)

Will that work for a gold ring with gemstones?

Depends. It may work but you run the risk of loosening a gemstone and having it fall out

Thanks. Guess I better take it to a pro

Gold is a tough one because it's...well not tough. Polishing silver is definitely easiest. Good luck!
