Not wanting to drive more than 15 minutes for "the best" is peak /r/RhodeIsland.
They're closed for the winter, but Dune Bros is right in the heart of PVD and has the best battered fish I've ever eaten: https://www.dunebrothers.com/#menu-anchor
Had the fish and chips at Red Stripe recently and it was pretty good!
It’s kind of a RI staple, so not that crazy.

Which is very easy to get to from Providence, 146->99 or 146 all the way, and then another 10 mins off the highway!

The question is not how far the distance is, but how far are you really willing to go for THE BEST!?

Captain's Catch on Mineral Spring, just over the N Prov line (across from Lowe's).
It's only take out and only Friday. Available all year.
I always get some original stuffies to take and bake. My favorite anywhere, including seafood restaurants.

I’m not a fish n chips guy, but people say that Ye Olde Fish and Chips in Woonsocket is the best around.
