Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense is having a meet-up on Sat. March 18. 12:30-1:30, at Frias Fruteria Cafeteria: 989 Broad St .Providence.

We are a RI volunteer group who work for public safety from gun violence through community education, advocating for safe gun laws & supporting survivors of gun violence. Interested in learning more? Drop by to meet us. We will be wearing red Moms Demand Action shirts. Men & women all are welcome

Actually sentencing people to time that statutes call for would probably be a good start.

First time offenders of RIGL 11-47-8A are afforded the chance of deferment for their sentence. Why should anyway convicted of illegally carrying a gun out on the streets be coddled?

Even a second time offender only has to do one year minimum.

And firing in a compact area? Misdemeanor….. so if someone fires a bullet into the air, which laws of physics says must come back down, the most you can do is a year in jail.

Instead of going after rights, how about you go after the police and prosecutors that have failed to charge and PROSECUTE THE LAWS ON THE BOOKS

The gun charges always get plead down and misdemeanor convictions don’t do shit.

And confer with gun owners to find common ground. We aren’t the monsters you think we are. I also notice a lot of ill informed people in MDA that go with emotional instead of factual

No amount of education or changing of laws will stop the gun violence that goes on in pvd. You have to start convicting criminals and putting them away instead of letting them back in the street. Install less liberal judges.

Hi newbiePVD.

I am a responsible gun owner. I disagree with what your going after. I hate to see rights erode. That said, anyone criticizing you should really be openly talking with you, not coming up with zingers on the internet.

However I would ask this:

If you are going to go for banning rifles, DO NOT give police a way out of this. They should not be allowed to have rifles either if you are going to take it away from the general public. Consider how violent police have been. Consider all the domestic violence cases they have against them.

It doesnt make any sense to me that a police officer can go shooting maybe once a year and then be done training, only to go on and be allowed to own a rifle. I can (and have) been trained too, specifically to carry a concealed firearm. So why couldn't I go get training to own a rifle?

It doesnt make any philosophical sense to me. And I think the only reason why we make exceptions is because we know it wont pass unless police are on board with the agenda.

I say no more. Police are civilians who uphold the law. We have access to the same training programs they do. All or nothing.

And, FWIW, I am OK if you force us to get licenses like Mass. I am OK with that because a gun is a responsibility, and people should have basic knowledge of how to operate a firearm safely. But it should not be prohibitive, and I would perhaps come up with a tax such that classes are held regularly and freely.

I am further OK with a tax on firearms or ammunition to pay for free education. I often see correlation between uneducated area and murder rate, and I'm OK if we try to solve this together.
