I received this email today from the West Broadway Neighborhood Association, WBNA, about an apparent suicide which happened at Dexter Park on Halloween night. Very upsetting to hear this. I can’t find any articles about it online, but figured I would share with you all who may not be aware.
Rest in peace to this poor person…
This is the email in question:
“Early this morning, an unnamed individual took their life at Dexter Training Ground Park. This is why you may have noticed a large police presence at the park around 8am. We have been in touch with our area's police district command but that is the only publicly available information that could be shared at this time.
We don't know the age, the identity, legal status of this person, whether they rented in our neighborhood or were unhoused. Any number of reasons or circumstances could have led to this outcome. All that's known is that a life was lost today and that merits acknowledgment.
As a community, we can use today as a reminder to hold our loved ones close, check-in on those who may be isolated or vulnerable, share smiles with everyone, and allow ourselves grace in light of challenges. As an organization, we will continue to offer opportunities for gathering and connecting with one another so that we can lift up and hold in a web of caring, those who need it most.”

Typically a suicide isn't getting much media coverage unless it's something disruptive or a case where the media picks up a body was found and reports on it before the cops quietly tell them what happened and they drop the story.
I'm all for message in the last paragraph but the first part of this message and sending an email blast about feels a little gross to me, especially the part where they're talking about immigration/housing status.
