This is very thoughtful of you. I hope they're okay and I hope you're feeling okay too, at least you weren't driving a car

This post hit me in a peculiar way. I’m not sure exactly why. It’s just nice to see some decent humanity when there’s so much road rage in Prov. Accidents happen and its usually jarring for everyone involved. Sometimes I feel like most people are speeding up on purpose just to hit me - and it’s nice to be reminded that not everyone is like that. OP I hope you’re doing ok.

Wtf: hit and run is never okay.
Last night I was in the same general area walking my dog and some bike riders were going stupid-fast for the conditions -- including one guy riding on the sidewalk at a high rate of speed. It was nuts.
In 30 years here I've never seen both drivers and bicyclists operating as negligently as they routinely do now.
Unlike the pedestrians in OP's post, I am super vigilant. Still, I've been halfway across in a crosswalk at a four-way stop in broad daylight and come close to being hit more than once.
OP, get a horn. At least give pedestrians warning that you're coming and can't stop. You can cause life-changing injuries that a free pizza won't fix.

I was on the road and didn’t see them before they stepped out from behind a massive car. A horn would have done nothing. I did purchase a strong bike light than the one I have now. I think also if I was riding more in the center of the lane instead of closer to the right side I would have been easier to see.
I’m surprised that people ride on the sidewalk here though. Pretty unacceptable. I don’t own a car so I only bike, and the amount of defensive riding you have to do when on a bike is insane here

I don't own a car either so I only walk and the amount of defensive walking I have to do dodging cars, bikes, ebikes and escooters is even more insane, believe me

Was it at the corner? If so you should be stopping as there is a stop sign there. You are supposed to be following all traffic signs specifically to avoid these type of situations. Since you said it was the corner I am assuming you blew through the 4 way stop there.
Also stupid for the pedestrian to walk out from behind a car, but if it was that close to the corner(car was most likely parked where they shouldn't have been) they might have had no choice.

Why does everyone in this thread assume that because I’m on a bike I’m like whipping around. It was raining and dark. If I did that then I would be the one being hit. Ofc I stopped at the stop sign. I took my turn and in front of aguardente is where I hit them
Silentjosh37 t1_izawvox wrote
Because I see and deal with people on bikes and cars not stopping at those stop signs all the time and have seen my fair share of pedestrians hit by cyclists, luckily only close calls with cars.
Sorry I assumed you didn't stop at a corner, but going by your description it was pretty far (relatively) from the corner as your post title suggested.
I am assuming they were not in a crosswalk then.

They were not. The point of the post was not to assign blame, I feel terrible, it was obviously just a wrong place wrong time accident. Just want to make sure they are alright

Yes you're right, for some reason when I read this I assumed he had stopped and apologized and helped her up but just continued to feel bad and had to post it on here. But they gave no indication that they actually did stop and after rereading it it does sound more like a hit and run. It's never okay, I wasn't trying to excuse their behavior I just assumed they already had apologized and was trying to allow OP to forgive themselves because accidents do happen.
