If you like indie rock, Molly O’Leary is great and will be playing at Askew in the near future with her band. Great group of musicians.

Prog rock? Hemlok if you like to go to weird places. Everyone in the band is an incredible musician. They don’t play live often but they play Dusk and Alchemy and the like.

Some other great local bands - How’s About Charlie, The Dust Ruffles, The Quahogs.

If you like Rockabilly, Sasquatch & the Sick-a-Billys - Squatch owns the Galactic Theatre in Warren and plays there regularly. Bit dark, he puts on a good show.

Check out schedules at Askew, Alchemy, Dusk, The Parlour, AS220 for lots of local shows. The Met in Pawtucket gets bigger touring acts and is a cool venue.

Edit to add: Jake Wasson MD is so good! Definitely a fan. Tons of really cool local musicians around here. Rather Nice too!

First time I saw them was at the Safari Lounge. I was doing my best Bukowski impression and they started playing and I was like WTF is this and left. A coworker told me the next day who they were and what they were about.

My most memorable moment seeing them was at AS220 on Easter or some other holiday. They had a life-sized stuffed Easter bunny (or Santa? I can't remember) which got destroyed by the end of the show. The whole crowd was littered with newspaper and cassette tape.

Not sure if it was this show or not by I had invited my ethnomusicologist friend to come and check it out thinking she might enjoy some out of the box music. She and all her friends left with their hands over their ears before I could buy a beer and get into the show.

Last time I saw them was in a warehouse show (Dave Beard's? I can't remember the name of the space) again on a holiday either Christmas or New Years. I got too wasted and the whole thing is like a water color painting in my mind.

Cannot understate how awesome it was to be 20-something in the mid 00s. Music scene in Providence was tops.

I saw Bochek at the Warren Folks Festival a few months ago and they were excellent! Very fun to dance to (although difficult to predict for somone who hadn't heard of them before...still had a great time dancing though!)

I came here to say Bochek as well, but I couldn't remember their damn name! I really enjoyed them when I saw them a couple years back.

Buttonwoods Brewery in Cranston has their anniversary this weekend. On Saturday, they have 4 local bands playing! I’ve seen Strip Mall a few times and really love their stuff

I almost saw Strip Mall open for Carly Cosgrove at Alchemy but I mixed the dates up with another show and went the day after the show (there was a show Tuesday and Thursday and I went there on Wednesday cuz I'm a dummy). Saw A Will Away, Afraid of Secrets, So So, The Fairview and Sleep Cycles the next day which was really good.

Hell yeah, I love this post amd seeing a lot of my friends being mentioned! I'm also a local musician and I perform under the name "Pinko Dykebomb"

https://linktr.ee/PinkoDykebomb

A couple other names I didnt see mentioned:

Electric Paisan - blues punk solo act

Coma Hole - highly dynamic doom metal two piece

Catalyst - high energy hardcore

But you can find out a lot of what the city has going on on here:

I mentioned electric paisan in my original post, he came into my work one day (at Eastside market) and we were chatting and he mentioned a show he was doing and I ended up going to it, now i see him come into eastside about twice a week and we're always chatting about shows and music. He's a really cool guy. Love his song Steel (Fall Apart)

Oh whoops, I'm a dumbass. I saw Jake Wasson's name and got distracted 😅

But Joe is such a sweetheart and I miss chatting music with him. I think Button Factory is my favorite song of his
