Lived in SK 2007-2011, both in Seoul and the countryside. Korean isn't hard to learn but the pronunciation was always tricky for me. I sounded like a 5 yr old speaking. Good luck, have fun!

You said you're using apps. In my experience, Korean apps just aren't that good and certainly aren't sufficient. I'd recommend either using TTMIK's core classes (free) or a textbook to get lessons that explain concepts with actual structure. You can definitely use other resources such as apps to supplement something like that

I spent a summer there in late 1980s (yeah, I'm old). I only learned the essential phrases of please, thank you, hello, and Where's the bathroom. Fortunately most Koreans learn English in high school. Though some of it is as bad as our high school French.

That being said, good luck with learning the language. I understand there are only 24 letters and they are always pronounced the same way. So you can learn how to pronounce things without knowing what you are saying.

I take classes online via Korea Society in NYC and like it a lot. There are a few KSs around the country that offer group classes online. You may get more from a private tutor after you get the basics of pronunciation, sentence structure, and build vocabulary
