Howdy! I was searching through the subreddit, and low and behold, there isn’t a thread of things to do outside! So, let’s make one! (Not that I’m doing this because I need new fresh ideas or anything) Things I know of:

(hiking)-

  • The James River, trails -Canal Walk -Texas Beach -Wayside Springs (short but cool to check out)

(chilling) -Scuffletown Park -Meadow Park -Byrd Park -Maymont -Libby Hill Park -Lombardy & Park Ave (kid friendly w swings) -VMFA -Breweries

(wandering) -Carytown

(UrbEx) -RIP it’s all gone -Pump House

(Self Entertainment) -kick rocks (mini soccer ⚽️) -build a house out of stuff you find on the ground (free real estate)

Please comment other ideas and I’ll try and edit/organize them into this post! (totally will not be using your ideas today or anything)

Libby Hill Park is quite nice in the chilling category. Also, grab a bike and hit the Capital Trail

The VMFA has a nice outdoor grassy area! Also Lewis Ginter. Also if you don't know "touch grass" is a genz modern insult :)

Forest Hill Park is a great outdoor spot to chill and there’s swings for kids plus the lake.

It’s a great time to grab some chalk, head out to a place with some blacktop, and copy out “the phrase is ‘lo and behold’” 300 times.

Zoo is a nice walk. Deep run has some nice pathways. Pony pasture offers a nice change in river walking, and you can walk along the road nearby, everyone does, anyway. Didn't see Hollywood cemetery mentioned.

A friend and I went to the batting cages on Route 1 and taught ourselves how to hit golf balls at the driving range there.

I also like to gather a small group of people and drink around the eternal flame at the war memorial after dark.

You could always volunteer. There are a couple of conservation oriented groups here where you could help in planting natives trees, removing invasives, testing the water quality of the river, or otherwise restoring habitat
