Inpatient Rehab?

I did a 6 day detox off fentanyl recently. Since I left there I have been trying to get into a 30 day residential treatment program. I have been denied so many times, I've lost count!! I have Medicaid and I am on methadone maintenance. These are the 2 biggest hurdles I've faced trying to get accepted. RBHA wouldn't let me do an assessment bc I was not a patient at their facility. So I switched my methadone to their clinic. This process took about 3 weeks. Then they did the assessment and told me basically they can't accept me bc they have no procedure in place to transfer my methadone to the facility. I called New Life at Galax. After the assessment there they said I do not qualify but they referred me to Southstone. That was Thursday at 8am. I have made atleast 10 calls to that facility and no one has called me back. Those were basically the only 2 facilities in VA accept 1)Medicaid and 2) methadone maintenance. I am just at a loss as what to do!! I have been sober now since FEB. 2 2023 when I entered detox. When I left there they gave me info to contact the above mentioned places. I have contacted a bunch more that I have found on my own and no one has accepted me! I am unable to switch to Suboxone bc I was on it for 2 years and I was sick with migraines and stomach issues the whole time. Finally my gastro doc. Told me to switch to methadone, I've been on it a year now and I am so much better!! Please, does anyone have any information about inpatient rehabs that offer scholarships? Or a way to get funding to enter a rehab place? All the places that accept methadone, do not accept Medicaid!! I know I've been sober a month now but I still want the structure of an inpatient place as well as needing the therapy and standing!! I have a lot of trauma/abuse. I have never been in any treatment programs in my whole life and I've struggled with addiction on and off for 20 years.

Hi! First off, congrats on being sober for over a month! So, it looks like your situation is tough, because not a lot of places accept Medicaid, as you've mentioned. Have you looked at Tucker Pavilion/Chippenham Hospital? They have a partial hospitalization program (so, not perfect, but better than nothing ig) and accept medicaid. I do not know whether or not they have methadone maintenance. Another option, still not a great one, is New Season (newseason dot org). They accept medicaid and do methadone maintenance, as well as counseling/therapy, but are outpatient focused. Apologies in advance if you've tried these two places already. I went to a program just like Chippenham in spotsylvania where I did the 6-day detox So unfortunately Chippenham is not really an option for what I'm looking for Thank you though.

Wow, I’m so impressed with your efforts. I’m sorry I have no advice, but I wanted to “bump” your post. I have family/friends who’ve struggled greatly with substance abuse issues and been to inpatient care but with insurance. Somebody mentioned Tucker’s and I wonder if there is a social worker you could talk to there. Have you tried posting in the greater VA area sub?

Hey man I work as a peer specialist, often times my job entails helping placing in sober living, 3/4 houses, or in patient rehabs

I will not say anything bad about programs in this area (they are all fine but have great dudes working there, just institutional problems”)

Do not - under any circumstances - go to Galyx or Calyx. I do not like to speak poorly of another program but they are a dangerously run facility

what about forest hill arts or capitol treatment in nova? not sure on the methadone end of things with either though

I have friends who had better luck in more advanced states like California. May be worth looking outside of Virginia. We are mid level when it comes to caring for our own.

I know it's a cost barrier but you may be able to fly somewhere and get out of your comfort region.

If I had the money to go out of state somewhere I definitely would. I was adopted and I do not have much family.

I’ve been to CA for rehab a couple times, and it’s definitely much nicer. But I don’t think that’s something Medicaid will pay for.

Congrats on your clean time! I'm honestly not sure that you'd qualify for inpatient at this point. There's a manual that all the facilities use to make decisions on level of care. Have you looked into intensive outpatient programs? They're 9-19 hours a week so there would still be structure. Partial hospitalization programs are typically 20 hrs a week. RBHA should have at least linked you to case management or peer recovery support so they could help you with this process.

Yeah my counselor said that this girl named Vanessa with peer support is supposed to give me a call that was 5 days ago I told him yesterday again that she has not called me still no call

I'm sorry, that's really frustrating. I used to work at programs like that and the volume is way too high for people to get adequate treatment a lot of the time.

Health Brigade has a needle exchange program. I know you're clean and have medicaid but they may be able to point you in the direction of other resources the general community doesn't know about.

Who is your MCO? You should have a care coordinator or can get one assigned who can help you with finding a treatment provider.

I have Virginia premier I called them I'm not even lying when I tell you that they gave me numbers to three places none of which were inpatient rehabs that dealt with substance abuse. An example is they gave me the number to soaring eagle in Chesterfield which is crisis stabilization. They said they are an able to search which places are 30 days and take methadone.

Forest Hill ARTS is the best inpatient I know of. I think your methadone can be achieved there….The healing place is another good choice based off what I’ve heard. But I don’t know about their MAT administration policy.

Thank you I will try those places One source I tried for like 2 weeks straight to get in there I talked to the guy who's over it I talked to a girl at the location all of which were supposed to give me a call back and let me do an intake they never did called them back numerous time And no answer or reply

Check out clean slate vcu. They accept Medicaid for Suboxone. It's going to be a rough transfer but you can do it. Life's so much better when you are not having to chase dope.

I'm unable to get onto Suboxone I have migraines and very bad IBS the suboxone messes with both of them I spent a very sick year and a half of my life figuring that out.

It makes me nauseous and I understand what you're saying. I've gotten down to the point where I take less than a milligram every two or three or 5 days. Ive gone a couple months without it, I just have it there to be safe. One day I'll be done.

Have you checked Inova, they’re in Nova, but they have a pretty good program.

Tucker’s Pavilion is a great place to detox, I found the staff very compassionate when I was in a similar place.

I left there and attended an inpatient rehab in Charleston, SC that was a low-cost no-insurance option. Years later, I am still sober and working for the same place I came through. If you’ve any interest, let me know.

Try this place….. not a 30 day but they specialize in addiction treatment outpatient. If you go to a clinic that doesn’t specialize in addiction you may be doing more harm than good.

I have tried to get them to do an assessment on me probably 10x in the last month. B they keep saying they will call me back. Literally the last told me again today that she needed to do 4 other intakes and then she would call me back. No call. I have even called one of the head people over there and complained. 3 weeks ago he promised he would call me back by 4pm that day. Haha!! I'm still waiting!! They are blaming it on a TV phone system problem.

Hang in there. Can I ask why you want to go inpatient? Is this to be out of the community, so to speak, while you get a month or so sober under your belt? Feel free to DM me if you want. TBH my probation officer is adamant that I go in patient. Even tho the doctors at the detox center I went to and at the clinic I'm currently in have both sent her reports to tell her that they recommend outpatient intensive. However, I have never really done any kind of treatment, so I'm actually looking forward to it and excited about doing it! I've been sober many times, for years at a time, but I've never really had the therapy I need to work on myself. Of course I could do that outpatient, but I just feel like I will get more out of inpatient. Also, I'm not from this area originally so I'm excited to meet some people who are in recovery and hopefully build a network of supportive people of like mind!

iirc, sublocade and suboxone are essentially the same. Main difference is that suboxone contains naloxone and is administered differently. Obvi don't know OP's chemistry, but they may have the same reaction to sublocade as they did for suboxone.
