Or are students who are more vulnerable to suicidal thoughts having a persecution complex about being discriminated against…

As a kid that was bullied I can tell you that it is both. I was definitely bullied my entire childhood but I also had a persecution complex that complicated it. Towards the end of high school I dropped the persecution complex but the bullying didn't stop I just didn't care anymore

Indeed.
A couple of years ago, I read an article in the NYTimes from a woman who was complaining about a lifetime of discrimination and micro aggressions.
Every example in the article - every single one - I had experienced in my life. I know no one is discriminating against me as a regular white man in a white majority city.
Some people are rude, ignorant, self absorbed, or any combination. If you see everything as discrimination, maybe you're the problem.

Discrimination and institutional racism are huge issues in the USA. For example a poor white family can secure lower home loan interest rates than a high income black family. This is one example of how things aren’t balanced for some POC and discrimination is just one more stressor to a general system that isn’t fair. As a black woman I’ve had people be openly racist/ sexist towards me and it’s very different than someone just being rude. Theres a lot of evidence regarding discrimination and it’s negative impact on marginalized groups & one random NYT article doesn’t disprove this https://www.jchs.harvard.edu/blog/high-income-black-homeowners-receive-higher-interest-rates-low-income-white-homeowners

But as an athiest white man in a white religious majority?
But as as a homeless white man in a white majority city?
But as a fat white man in a sexy white majority city?
But as an old white man in a young majority city?

Lemme’ guess…. Zero background in psychology, but entirely confident in your mastery of the subject?
Since when has suicidal thoughts lead to a persecution complex? Did you stop to think for even two second before you decided to say something this ignorant?

"You are wrong because this topic makes me uncomfortable, let me tell you what you're actually going through" This attitude is a huge part of the problem

I was just asking a question, please don’t assume I was having an attitude.
My thinking is - maybe paranoia and suicidal thoughts are different sides to the same coin. Hard to tell which is face up or face down.
Some people who feel they are discriminated against - have been discriminated against
Some of them have not. A subset of the people who have not been discriminated against are:
1 - looking to profit from perceived discrimination Or 2 - Paranoid
