its why i'm hesitant to learn new skills. I know they'll be obsolete before i master them

I think we are approaching the point where "learning for the sake of learning" might well be better than the advice of "learning for the sake of earning." If you've got younger kids, it's pretty hard to imagine what their livelihoods will look like in 10-15 years.
