I think the problem with AGI is that because of the incredible possibilities people forget that it will need to be applied to our current (or near-future) mess, we have a lot of HUMAN issues to figure out before we can fix a human made problem this large, maybe AGI can assist in that but a lot of hard work, compassion, wisdom, and mutual understanding is needed before we could even begin to fully apply the possibilites of AGI. Our current social/human world is kind of a mess and not heading in the right direction from what I'm seeing.
