I am a believer in the slow-takeoff theory, and I believe that there will not be mass job loss. Advanced AI has already caused industry shifts. I believe that a "sentient/conscious AI" (which is what I assume you mean by AGI) will just cause a shift in available jobs.

The powers that be will not allow mass unemployment. However, if this superintelligence could give everyone in a nation access to shelter, food, and water, our entire idea of our economy will change.
