I'd say the pattern that is my "Soul" is not the brain. The brain is hardware. My personality is my operating system. I can add new skills and ideas, without dying. I can grow or change with updates. But I'm still the same OS. Extreme data changes might constitue death, but the analogy breaks down a bit here.
