I don’t see why this is exciting. AI is a very powerful technology that now will be controlled by corporate behemoths and everybody else meaningless pets. The company was registered as a non profit and now show their true colors. This is bad news imo

Don’t get me wrong, the corporations gaining control of open source, or allegedly open source, resources and services is bad.

I was more talking about how a bunch of money and people are throwing around a lot more interest in AI related things. Exciting to see what developments come from it.

Yes, I understand:) massive investment is needed but also a lot of discussion around fair distribution of benefits and moral use of the technology. I don’t know how the government can ensure the latter happens so I believe it’s a loophole. I wish the markets would fund it rather than corporations.

Because OpenAI wants to maintain control of itself, but Microsoft wants to make sure they are the next biggest owner of OpenAI so nobody else can control things.
