It's there...just look to the left of Earth. A tiny, gray dot.

Neither, op is wrong. From this distance the moon would not appear that far away from earth. In this version of the image the moon is basically in the same pixel as the earth.

This is correct. Also, it’s not a single image but a mosaic of multiple images.
