So it just sits there? I thought maybe it at least spun in the same direction as the planets orbit around it.. Maybe?

Yes that is correct, that person was just messing with you.

The planets formed from an accretion disc -- a large amount of material left over from the formation of the Sun -- that orbited it in the same direction as its rotation. So the planets all orbit in the same direction as well, and roughly all on the equatorial plane of the Sun.
