It's legal because there was never a rule saying it ain't prior. (Because the guys that tried it before just damaged their cars and kept or lost spots). Moving forward will probably be a different story.

The problem is it can become a fine line between putting others at risk or not. This time it worked to perfection. Doesn’t mean that will always be the case. Bit of a slippery slope.
