What if you compared peak Cam to baby Tom? Like an infant.

26

Mr_Strol t1_ize4ybz wrote

That point in time never existed. Literally every year Cam has been alive, Brady has been the better QB.

Cam won MVP once, so he was better that year. Checkmate

10

Mr_Strol t1_ize92ry wrote

MVP doesn’t mean better. It often goes to the QB from the team with the most wins. Carson Wentz was the runaway MVP favorite one year before injury.

−8

Yeskid10 t1_izec1xh wrote

I'm saying Newton was better that year. Regardless of what you think of MVP, he was better in 2015.

5

Mr_Strol t1_izejk2d wrote

Tom Brady lead the NFL in passing TDs in 2015 and had a MUCH better showing in AFC title game against Denver then Cam did in the Bowl. All Cam did that year was rack up rushing TDs in the worst division in football.

Tom was still better. But Carolina had more wins as a team. Cam got the award.

The year where Brady was suspended for deflate gate, I drafted Cam Newton like 2nd or 3rd overall and picked up Brady on the 6th or 7th round. I traded Newton before Brady was even back.

A talented athlete but a pussy as a competitor. What's that old movie quote? " He'd rather look good and lose than look bad and win."

−6

wolfpack1986 t1_izdvncl wrote

“Pussy as a competitor” what? Cam isn’t better than the NFC South QBs currently but he was very dominant in his prime. The dude didn’t shrug off contact and was as fiery/competitive as they come. as a Panthers fan, this kind of revisionist history is extremely annoying from the casual NFL fan.

SawCon884 t1_izdwa7f wrote

Jumped out of the way of a fumble rather than recover it during a Superbowl game on a play that was critical to the outcome of the game. You're welcome.

10

TheTrocadero t1_izdww53 wrote

Biggest game of his life and he’s not willing to lay it all on the line to win. His post game outfits support the theory he was too concerned with his image and not hungry enough to do whatever it takes to win.

malaka201 t1_izdygn8 wrote

I have to agree. You whole career led up to that and you casually noped out of the way. It was eight in front of him! And that was the end

Maximus15637 t1_izdwrvy wrote

One play does not maketh the man. Cam will always be one of the greats in Carolina. But his sun has set, even if he doesn’t think so.

That one play certainly defines his career. The only highlight clip he will be really known for. Bitched out on the biggest play of his life.

Razergore t1_izcl0ik wrote

Ya even if he is, he is way over the hill and not nearly good enough to win a Super Bowl. Can’t see any reason a team would want him.

Taysom is nice. But i am weary as he’s past 30yo serving as RB. Overall, glad to have him as a backup of the backup.

Cam? Drama and he’s way past 30. Taysom plays with GRIT and can serve as RB, QB, WR, defensive specialist, etc.

Realistically... you are probably right. Throw current cam back into college games and he can probably still get 2,000 yard seasons (lower competition) but could still have a sub 60% completion percentage, low number of TDs, and a high number of INTs.

Basically a worse Anthony Richardson without the youth or potential.

That last game was such a shit show. I nearly turned it off because it was boring. Both teams offense were sputtering. The biggest plays were on PIs and turnovers resulted in barely any points iirc.

But its Brady so who knows. Maybe there's a little magic left. So I kept watching...

And sure as shit there was some magic left.

That ending. Those last hurried up drives. The defence stepping up at the perfect moment to close out the Saints. The holding penalty cancelling the first touchdown pass. Back 10yrds do it again. Pass to the rookie short of the line, he turns, he pushes, and crosses the line perfectly before a knee touches. Just....damn.

Point after kick is up...its good...and wow. Ridiculous comeback.

A garbage game for about 90% of the game the finished off with absolute fkn magic.

Never count him out. Brady is unbelievable.

But for as great as Brady is, Joe Buck and Troy Aickman are that terrible at being commentators. They’re so boring, so negative, so monotone…they sound too similar, never have anything even half-way astute to say, and Joe Buck’s humor comes across so douchey.
