You do realise Meta have no way of reading the messages, unless either party actually sends it to a employee right?

No, they don't realize that.

And none of that stuff is mispresented as being encrypted data.

WhatsApp doesn’t share your messages with Meta. So not really.

WhatsApp isn’t a model based on serving ads or acquiring data.

Was it slack or zoom who got caught pretending to have secured encrypted messages and then it came out that the just said it was encrypted while it wasn’t?

Zoom. But the microscope that WhatsApp is under is a million times more powerful and all we have is paranoia, no evidence at all.
I understand the meta hate but their is a point where it just sounds stupid.

Itt: people not realising reverse engineers have ripped whatsapp apart many many times... And there has never been a bombshell dropped regarding its operation.
WhatsApp is end to end encrypted, can be confirmed as such, and doesn't "phone home" with its data.

Meta controls the actual app and any updates to it. There's no telling if there's code that searches your message history for specific words and sends info back to Meta through control channels about your interests. Eg you chat with a friend about IKEA and potentially Meta knows that you're interested about furniture without any of your messages being read at Meta central.

Paranoid bullshit

There’s a reason why apps like Signal exist. It’s open source and you know what’s in the code.
Meta/Google etc all have its revenues directly linked to data they can gather from you. I don’t have much faith that things closed source that they wrote are completely hands off at that data right in front them.
Certain things are believable like them not sending all your messages back directly. Impossible to hide that from the sheer volume of data that would have to be sent through the control channels. But it doesn’t mean that local data stored in the app isn’t analysed in some way.
