I had a similar gripe when moving to Virginia from Raleigh, NC. I wfh but the internet in rural Va is basically from 2003. Had to move to a college town to find any decent speeds but even that's capped at 2tb.

Parts of rural VA are getting fiber as a project under Dominion. I don't know everywhere that's getting it, but I've made designs in Appomattox, Richmond, and Prince Edward counties.

Yeah, folks in Cville are not happy and the folks in the next County over are livid. Their county government is writing building permits with wanton abandonment because of “muh tax revenue”. Folks are now saying where’s this tax revenue and why does the next county over have fiber and in under two years.
