Given how close to the original release date it is (4/26), it seems odd they'd just be realizing now that it needs another three months.

My guess is that its strike related. Gotta stretch those subscriptions out and if theres suddenly 3 months where they cant even shoot stuff that will eventually cause a serious gap in their schedule.

Wouldn't surprise me, and it's really not a bad move. AppleTV doesn't have a ton of original content to begin with, and in terms of comedy, they already have Ted Lasso, Schmigadoon, and The Big Door Prize to carry things until summer.

Should really be interesting to see how a strike impacts streamers like this regardless, though. Back in 2008, Netflix and Hulu were the only games in town, and they were both still several years off from producing their own original content. Now, there are countless streamers that will have to contend with this, and it's much different than networks on television who didn't really have to worry about people cancelling subscriptions.

Netflix likely has enough in the can to weather something like this since they release new stuff practically weekly as it is. They also already license a lot of foreign programming. But streamers like AppleTV, Peacock, Paramount+, and even Disney+ generally are only fueling subscriptions by having a couple big shows running at a time. Give it a few months like how the 2008-9 WGA Strike ran, and these services are going to have a very difficult time justifying keeping people subscribing, and I doubt a shift to reality programming like what we saw during 2008-9 is going to be enough, particularly in the case of AppleTV.

That sucks. I loved Season 1 and had just signed up to catch that, Ted Lasso, and some other shows. Going to cancel and re-up when that comes out.

While you have it make sure you check out Black Bird. Its fucking great show about a criminal being sent into superbad prison to try to coax a confession out of a serial killer. Fantastic acting from both of the leads, the story is awesome and I literally couldn't stop watching it. Binged it in a day.

Also the movie "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" needs to be seen. It's the true story of a guy taking beers to his buddies in Vietnam.

Also Slow Horses is a great spy show, Shrinking is a hilarious comedy with Harrison Ford and I really liked Schmigadoon.

The original date was always a weird one as it would have missed Emmy qualification under the new rules. They were probably trying to squeeze it in before so it qualified but with the eligibility change they had leeway to shove it back a few months into the next Emmy window. They are pretty stacked in terms of volume over the next few months. They hit 8 concurrent shows at one point which will be a new high for the service!
