Just like the post says. Sometimes I think Riverdale is insane but other times I think it may be genius. It has always given me a Twin Peaks vibe for just how many random plot lines mixed in with standard drama.

We all laugh and make fun of Riverdale because the gang got superpowers but in Twin Peaks Nadine also became super strong. Both shows went down a supernatural road and both started with a dead teen.

Why is one praised and the other viewed as terrible?

In my mind the writers room of Riverdale is a group of people and one person at the top says “you can write ANY story you want as long as it happens to these characters” and they don’t care if it makes sense or not

This reminded me of the Key and Peele gremlins 2 sketch which if you haven’t seen I highly recommend!

I mean in the Archie comics they get superpowers too so I don’t see that as any real stretch.

I've only watched the first half of the first season of Riverdale (and probably won't ever watch more), so take this with a grain of salt, but from what I did see, Twin Peaks was exactly the comparison I thought of. Not that they're of similar quality, of course.

Yeah that’s what I always viewed it as. Twin Peaks always walked a fine line for me of “is this bad on purpose or is it just bad”

Twin Peaks definitely leaned into the shitty soap opera aspects, even lampooning itself a bit with the in-show soap opera you saw bits of, but it only got bad-bad in the second half of the second season.

I loved the show at first for that very reason. I thought it was insane on purpose. But the more it went on, the more I started to realize that crazy for crazy's sake doesn't necessarily mean good writing.

Yes. Time I think has been it’s biggest enemy. It’s become the exact thing that it was mimicking/poking fun at

I’ve watched both and I am well aware of how loved Twin Peaks is and the reputation of Lynch and Frost but honestly some of Twin Peaks seems just as dumb and nonsensical as parts of Riverdale.

Sometimes I wonder if years from now people will rediscover Riverdale as some cult hit

I’ve dipped in and out of Riverdale and am mostly up to date but I watch it sort of in a let’s see what madness they’re up to now. I watched the original twin peaks and fire walk with me but just couldn’t get into the new season.

Most if not all Riverdale episodes are named after old genre movies, it’s neon soaked and so out there that it is clearly a conscious decision but wether that means it’s a good decision is another thing. My fiancé always questions why I watch it and I always say because I think it might be genius and I’m going to figure it out. It’s the TV version of Nic Cage
