I'm begging you to watch a movie that isn't a franchise

You are acting like everything is a part of a shared universe. It it it is not. The overwhelming majority of content out there is still standalone and self contained. You have hundreds of thousands of hours of television and movies to choose from.

The problem is you want to complain.

Most movies don't have undefined endings. Only big movie franchise normally do that.

The recent trend towards serialization, that every show is part of one big epic storyline and you need to watch every episode for years to see it conclude is frustrating. Not all stories should be serialized. There is benefits to having stories that are episodic, that end in a single installment.

Right now it feels like every TV show is trying to pace themselves the exact same way, even if that pacing isn't what would be best for that show.

I actually think we have a good mixture of all of it. Network TV is more episodic and case of the week and streaming is more serialized. On top of that, limited series are huge right now. So while it may be serialized, it’s only for 1 season and has an ending. So you get the best of both worlds with limited series. A one and done season that doesn’t extend any further.

Personally, I’m more on the serialization train. Episodic/procedural series drive me crazy. Just comes down to personal taste, I suppose. But I actually think there is a good mixture for everyone.

This is so odd. Like someone who doesn't like horror but keep watching scary movies.

Just look up whatever it is you're about to watch? I would take you a minute on reddit to find out if something has a cliffhanger or whatever.

Yes.

House of the Dragon was much better than I had anticipated but now it'll be another 18-24 months until the second season.

Non-franchise movies exist. This is kind of on you.

Why is everyone being so negative. I mentioned this was a rant. Yes, I can read books instead. Yes, I can watch other non-franchise movies/shows. What I’m saying is that there is a trend for these never ending shows/movies and I’m ranting about it.
