Season 1 of The mysterious benedict society was so good. I was a bit shocked that it was not marketed well and hence is still hidden from folks who aren't aware of the book (incl. me) I didn't know until today that Season 2 is already airing. I'm not sure if there was no marketing done here in Asia or if it wasn't done anywhere at all. I tried to find a recap of season 1 on YouTube but, no luck.

I recommend it to folks who haven't watched it yet, it's damn good. It kinda gives the vibes of A series of unfortunate events.

To the folks who had watched the show, what are your thoughts on S2 (non-spoiler review please) ??

(If anyone finds a S1 recap, hit me)

You should read the books. Weird but good.

My son got into it and made us watch it. I enjoyed it other than Kate, who annoyed the shit out of me and in my opinion was the worst of the child actors. The style is very reminiscent of Unfortunate Events.

It doesn't see the same level of promotion that a Star Wars or MCU show would, but it's up in the big title card on Disney+, and there have been ads running that I've seen. I love the hell out of it, but the majority-think in this sub tends to be that Disney+'s only worth is in how many MCU and Star Wars franchise shows it can pump out for them. The Disney live-action shows like Mysterious Benedict Society, Big Shot, and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers tend to get cold-shouldered.

I will also say, as great as the show is, the books are still better. The books can carry off things they can't do in live-action, like Constance being a toddler.

If you're looking for folks talking about the show, then r/nicholasbenedict might be a better bet than here.

I hoped this was about some weird Benedict Cumberbatch cult.

What’s the target audience? It looks like a young adult or kids show from the little I’ve seen - would adults like it too?

If you liked shows like series of unfortunate events and umbrella academy, you might like this. As the story progresses you'll find it more interesting and fits for adults who are used to modern fantasy shows with a pinch of sci-fi..

Edit: however, you can't expect serious deaths or drama in the show if that's a must to you

I've seen ads for the show but it looked too like "this is fun and quirky and dark and 12 year olds will love it but adults might find it kind of meh" for me, like that RL Stine anthology that's on there (which I have watched). I guess I might check it out now. Eventually.

It's based on the Trenton Lee Stewart series of YA books, and they're basically adapting one book per season. Trailer here.

It is indeed YA, and Disney+ rates the show at TV-PG, but as a kidless age 50+ adult who still watches cartoons and reads the occasional comic book :), I love both the books and the show. YMMV. When S1 first dropped, a lot of people were likening it to Wes Anderson or A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Just me, but every now and then it's good to shower off the TV-MA dark-dark-dark spatter of most streaming shows with some lighter TV-PG or TV-Y7 kid stuff. Or hell, in the case of Bluey, TV-Y. :)

Hm I might try it! (I’m not great with lots of violence, which seems to happen in a lot of other genre shows. And I could do with less drama in my tv watching given that the real world feels so dramatic!)

It’s D+’s best non-Marvel show IMO.
