People prefer male actors. For some reason, that’s just a fact. So either men will dominate the best gender-neutral actor awards and lots of people will be angry, or there will be an behind-the-scenes push for award bodies to try and balance the gender win rates, which will make a lot of people angry

I don't know if its that people prefer male actors, but male roles are def much much better written 99% of the time.

Which is surprising since I feel the Best Actress winner usually has the better performance, at least in the last 10 years. The Best actor award has been a lot less competitive even.

Highly subjective. Prominent female roles are also high on Oscar bait type emotion.

2/3 of academy voters in 2022 are men. Over 80% of academy voters are white.
People who think this would result in more equitable awards are naive.
