Maybe that’s how his family wanted to remember him.

And 78 is too young these days

78 is still old, even these days. Pretty much bang on male life expectancy at birth (and only 3 years or so under life expectancy of someone who reached 25).

I've noticed people have developed weird ideas about what constitutes being old the last few years.
