I have a few:

Ilana from Lost. I still to this day don’t understand what the purpose of her character was besides bringing Sayid back to the island. That and her getting randomly blown up were the only memorable things about her character. I know she was originally supposed to be Jacob’s daughter and that storyline was scrapped, but still, the writers could’ve given her more to do. Even Ben lamp-shaded the writers’ decision to kill her off by saying, “The island was done with her.” 🏝️

Mike Anderson from Dexter. He was a chill dude and probably one of the only competent law enforcement characters on the show. For him to be immediately killed off in the Season 7 premiere, I have to assume the writers didn’t know what to do with him and gave him an unceremonious death as a result. Even the other characters didn’t seem to miss him when he died. 👮‍♂️

Alexei from Stranger Things. Alexei was an obvious fan favorite because he was funny and arguably the most innocent Russian in the show. I knew he technically betrayed his country, but the way Grigori killed him was so mean-spirited. It also didn’t help that he didn’t interact with a lot of the main characters, which made his death less impactful than it should’ve been. 💀

I have many more, but those are the best ones I can think of. What are yours? 👀

FYI: I’m mostly referring to characters whose deaths fell flat or happened unexpectedly, hence the phrase “outlived their usefulness”.
