They are trying to find a way to replace tv AD revenue which will eventually go away as more people cut the cords

They’re going to bring back contracts, too.

Do you have any basis for this beyond speculation? Has any streamer actually discussed contract based subscriptions or are we just jumping to the worst conclusion?

I’m not sure about contracts I haven’t heard anything about those but I understand why people are worried with ad tiers coming in

There have been rumors that netflix has considered year long subs but I cannot imagine them trying to do that and ending password sharing near each other.

Yep, like many industries they are bloated and now know that. Ad rev will not be coming back.

Eventually I imagine if they can’t get that revenue back on there own we’re gonna see acquisitions that get them that revenue

Ehhh, there are people that will deal with ads just to have a cheaper price.
The concern is if the ads start bleeding into the "premium" tiers or there's no option to remove ads altogether.
