i dont know i think he played the neighborhood robber pretty much to type- just him being a gay character doesnt really change much
i mean…when Omar came into the projects with a shotgun the kids yelled “OMAR COMING” Not “gay omar”
>him being a gay character doesnt really change much
In 2002 it did.
Amos Burton
I think its Marlo Stanfield in the Wire.
Literally soft spoken, small in stature, articulate, and calculating- playing a feared/respected ruthless drug dealer in Baltimore.
the way he carries that role, I bet nobody else auditioned the way Jamie Hector is…
even the payoff of having him never raise voice thru the entire series- for him to finally do so in this moment
Lucia Greco in The White Lotus
Oh yeah that is a good one. She was sort of an empowered sex worker which is not something we often see.
John Locke - Lost
Someone ran out of time to do their homework.
Peacemaker I suppose
Whedon shows are littered with them. If you made it to the end of the Dollhouse there are some character turns that are just stunning.
Steven Universe surprised me a few times with where the characters ended up going. It was always human and fit with who they were but also unique and nuanced in a way that only humans can be.
John Tavner (Michael Dorman) in Patriot. Absolutely brilliant portrayal of a bumbling, burned out intelligence officer (who also fancies himself a folk singer). If anyone hasn't seen this series, yet - I'd absolutely recommend it - it's on Prime. The original Slow Horse!
I always liked Max from Happy Endings. Gay best friend but a sloppy loser
I feel Bosch has quite a load of unique characters
Every Seinfeld character.
Really? I thought they were all kind of par for the kinds of characters you saw in other sitcoms from that same era.
And maybe it’s because I have family from NYC and spent a lot of time there, George and Jerry’s parents were stereotypical NY parents.
Nora in The Leftovers
Jack Shephard - LOST
Your first impression (which lasts for a while) is that he is the typical heroic character. Handsome, brave, kind, smart...
But as the series progresses we see how flawed his character actually is.
Columbo from Columbo and his deviation is the key to his success; all the murderers underestimate him because he seems to be a slob/bum/clown/bumbler and yet, as slovenly as he appears to be, his mind is like the clockwork of a swiss watch.
Dexter
I think The Society has a few characters that are like this. I think they wrote them as cliches and then fleshed them out to be more like actual nuanced people and I adore the show for that.
Mork. Even other aliens were nothing like him.
Wednesday
ok stop
Do you think this is true of the original? The movie? And the new Netflix series?
