It was erected in 1992 to commemorate Hidalgo as the first American city to be invaded by an aggressive strain of African bees that resulted in public panic. Yes. They were sold as being basically infinite in number, attacking without provocation, and will mindlessly pursue you for miles until you and everyone you love is dead
