I always like how the Devil basically played Rock n Roll with his band of demons.

You're gonna have to be more specific. That song is fiddle all the way down.

I personally like the devil’s part better, it has that more rock and roll feel like u/AudibleNod mentioned, but if you really focus on the fiddle part of it, it’s not good. Especially as it goes on, you can hear how it degrades, even my untrained ear

That's what I always like about his part.

I think he Johnny wins because he did it solo. The devil needed a whole band to sound bad ass, but it was pure Rock and/or Roll!!

TIL for me, as well. After listening to Lonesome Fiddle Blues on YouTube, I realized I'd heard it before. It's in David Hoffman's 1965 documentary about Appalachian mountain music and step dancing, a band of old-timers is playing it while a couple teens from a traveling dance troupe are warming up: https://youtu.be/kgHgLgR9WNc?t=1613

Isn’t that how the devil is supposed to work?

You lose and you give your soul or you win and condemn yourself by being prideful.

In the end the devil always wins if you agree to his deals.

the whole song is a putrid rip off of the infinitely more spirited “floopy boot stomp”

You don't hear what Johnny plays on his fiddle. The lyrics are describing the songs that he plays. Fire on the mountain, house of the rising sun, chicken in a bread pan and granny does your dog bite are all songs and the lines that mention them mostly include lyrics to the song too.

“Well, it looked like I was gonna be stuck here as far as I could tell I thought I might as well suck up, you know what the hell I said, "You know that song that Charlie Daniels did About how you went down to Georgia and played fiddle against that kid" He said, "Yeah it broke my heart but you know what are you gonna do I said, "To tell you the truth I thought your solo was the better of the two"

Do you have to be inbred to like this song? Is that the key to enjoying this hee haw symphony of rural kiddy fiddling and lynch mobs?

TIL that you can sing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" to "Lonesome Fiddle Blues" and it works perfectly. Thank you!
