They always have a big beard too. I'll get downvoted but "beard culture" is a thing and IMO there's a huge correlation between insecure dudes and beards. Their beard becomes their identity. In this case he want his beard to say "I'm a really badass dude who probably is some sort of secret military hence my need for this testosterone infused beard of mine"
