I am planning on proposing to my long time partner sometime this year. I have my deceased mother’s engagement ring but would like to have the gem removed and placed into something unique. Are there any jewelers within an hour’s drive of Burlington that y’all would recommend? I really don’y want to go to one of those big national jewelry stores. Thanks in advance!

Matthew Taylor designs in Shelburne is worth checking out. He is an independent bespoke jeweler who can design something unique. Really good guy with many years of experience.

He made my wife’s wedding band to shadow her engagement ring. His work was superior to what we were being offered elsewhere and he was less expensive by a lot from other places we looked.

I've worked with him for years. Matt is a craftsman and a great guy!

He redid my mom's ring. It came out awesome! He was really good at involving her as much as she wanted in design/concept (not much). It was fairly priced for what it is

Absolutely. He'll hook you up, he's great.

I’m just here for the inevitable Leunigs joke.

Also, it’s a little farther, but NT Ferro in Woodstock does nice work.

Oh yeah. Leunigs has a slew of rings they sell out of the kitchen. Real cheap...

Highly recommend Alchemy Jewelry Arts in the south end of Burlington, so two talented goldsmiths! I had a similar situation and they used a family diamond to create a new engagement ring for my now-wife.

yes, we loved our rings made by Marie-Josee Lamarche at alchemy! My mom has also worked with her to redesign a ring using a gem from my grandma's ring and was really happy with the result.

I’d recommend Tick Tock Jewelers in Burlington - I brought in my grandmother’s engagement ring and they created my engagement ring. I was asking for a fairly simple setting and design - I wanted a hammered platinum band. They were great to work with and they did a beautiful job.

Agreed. My engagement ring from them is so beautiful. We came in with an idea and a gem and he knocked it out of the park.

Autumn gold is in Middlebury and they are amazing with custom and semi-custom options.

I second Autumn Gold in Middlebury. My wife wanted unique and not run of the mill for an engagement ring. Autumn Gold was great to work with. Awesome people.

Annika Rundberg - she did my engagement and wedding rings, and did a fantastic job including stones from my grandmother’s rings. She does a ton of re-setting old stones into new contemporary designs!

Perry Sporn is a wretched human and doesn’t deserve anyone’s business. I’ve had the displeasure of doing work for him, and he’s a colossal prick. Never gets permits for anything. Shits on the contractors, and worse of all treats his employees like garbage. Fuck that guy.

Is that why I haven’t heard a periwinkles fine jewelry ad for the better part of a decade? 😂

For my engagement/wedding rings, I went to After Midnight Jewelers in the blue mall in South Burlington. While my wife's ring was pretty standard (albeit beautiful), they did an amazing custom job on my ring. My father passed away some years before, and they incorporated some of the gold from his wedding band into mine. They also created two custom necklaces with the rest of the gold that I gave to my mother and sister. They did a great job and I highly recommend them!

Shannon’s fine Jewelry in Essex! I got my wife’s engagement ring and our wedding bands from Tan. He was great very easy to work with. I often heard people coming in with estate jewelry and asking Tan to modify it.

For our 25th anniversary my husband had my engagement and wedding rings redesigned in a new setting. We were on a tight budget when we got married so we bought what we could afford. We went to perrywrinkles in Burlington and the designer did an amazing job with the ideas and budget we brought to her.

I get compliments on my rings all the time as I work with my hands so people notice.

Perriwinkles is my moms go to shop. She's spent stupid money there and all jewelry pieces are gorgeous! They work with what she wants and always happy to fix any issues(gem falling out/broken clasp). I think they do custom jewelry
