Highly recommend Washington Oral & Facial Surgery & Dental Implant Center (DC location on 19th St NW). Staff was friendly and very thorough when I recently got all four removed.

Just got three wisdom teeth removed by Dr Merlo last Friday…..he’s a competent oral surgeon, but has terrible bedside manner and very poor communication all around.

As someone who has worked in an operating room for decades and has a father that was an oral surgeon. Usually the best surgeons have the worst bedside manner and social skills. Ultimately. Do you want your surgery done right or do you want a friend

If the surgeon cannot communicate well regarding pre-op risk factors and care and post-op care and red flags for complications, he or she is not a very good clinician IMO and patient outcomes will be poorer. Obviously, their time is valuable, but that’s the bare minimum.

I’m glad that more clinicians, like Atul Gawande, are talking about the fact that this doesn’t have to be the status quo.

Even with routine oral surgery, a lot can go wrong once you’re discharged… I certainly wouldn’t want someone like you’re describing to perform an oncology-related surgery on me.

I said nothing about not being informative or not providing proper care. I was more implying their social skills.

Had a great experience with Capital Oral and Facial Surgery (Dr. Rostami). Helpful staff, relaxing office, and Dr. Rostami was very attentive both pre- and post-operation. Got all 4 taken out at once and had almost no bleeding or pain after 24 hours. All around as good as it gets for wisdom teeth

I also went here. The staff was great. Got all 4 removed, 2 were impacted. Zero issues. I could have gone back to work that day if I wanted to. I had almost zero swelling/soreness the next day

I recently went to Northern Virginia Surgical Arts (the Carlin springs location), and I would highly recommend them!

Not sure if he is still practicing (Google Maps says permanently closed but he's still on heathgrades and zocdoc) but if he is I'd suggest Dr. Carl Ruderman in Riverdale Park.

He took out all 4 of my wisdom teeth (plus a bonus molar the wisdom teeth had crushed) and it was a nearly painless process.

He also took my crappy insurance and the total bill was very reasonable.

I wouldn't go to him if you want to be out to sleep for wisdom teeth removal.

I can't speak for general anesthesia but mine was twilight and I barely experienced any of the surgery. I remember waking up for like 30 seconds where I was conscious and could hear teeth crunching but I couldn't feel a thing and quickly went back under.

He has had a couple of deaths in his office in less than 1 year. That's kind of unheard of in oral surgery. Pretty sure that's why he's closed. I think it happened in 2021

I went to Dr Bukzin (Meyer Clinic) in Arlington late last year and would 1000% recommend. I waited to get mine out until they were mostly emerged, because I was really dreading it. He was so good. Staff got me in quickly, laid out how much it would cost (IIRC like $900 for four teeth, full anesthesia), and made sure I had all the prescriptions filled ahead of time. It was sooo easy and honestly didn’t hurt at all after. Almost zero swelling/bruising.

Dr Lisa Cohen at MOSA in downtown silver spring (one block from metro). She was so kind plus excellent at extractions. i have dental anxiety and she was both understanding and kept true to her word to make the process painless.

Wasn't smart of you to wait to have them removed.

None of the dentists I've been to ever mentioned it. They took regular x-rays. I assumed mine would never come out. My parents never had this issue.
