Hello DC. I am commuting from Baltimore to DC this week for work in Chinatown. I am looking for cheap lunch specials in the area close to the gallery place metro stop. Best I have found so far is Chipotle for about 10 dollars for a bowl. Any similarly cheap places I should check out?
Chinatown Express.
Yes it's dingy.
Yes it's old.
But it's where I would get underage drinks before shows at the old 9:30 Club.
I will never not recommend Chinatown Express.
Before COVID, their lunch special was right at $10. And it was definitely food, efficient food.
Yes! I have been here before. Definitely a good option. I will have to see if their lunch special is still at that price point.
There’s lots of fast casual places by there.
Cava (Mediterranean bowls) bindaa (Indian bowls), hip city veg, eat brgz (burgers), smashburger (burgers), etc
China Boy is my go to for Chinese food.
China Boy, often overlooked. Cheap and above average chow foon.
Seating situation ain't ideal. Better for takeaway, in my opinion.
Spice 6 looks interesting. I will check them out.
I second Cava. If you’re willing to go up to $15ish I recommend Poke Papa, SeoulSpice, and Daikaya. Z Burger is also really good.
This is such a DC 'fun fact'--I wrote a very long paper in high school about the Lincoln assassination and conspiracy and I remember going to karaoke with some friends at Wok & Roll and waiting outside for an Uber and seeing the plaque and shouting "OH MY GOD!!!! THIS IS THE SURRATT HOUSE????" Lmao.
Seconding this! $4/slice for NY style pizza, and they have combos.

I go there semi frequently. It's extremely good food but a little more expensive than some other options in the area. About $18.50 for a naan wrap and drink but that wrap is almost 2 servings on its own. If you were eating out for dinner and don't eat the entire wrap in one sitting, you'll end up saving money.
Would recommend reading Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation, where she chronicles revisiting famous sites around the US where presidential assassinations occurred or were planned.
I reread it again recently after visiting where McKinley was shot in Buffalo and her takes on touring the morbid side of Washington DC and the surrounding areas are so funny and interesting.
I went there with a couple of friends when we were in town for a Meshuggah concert. It was pretty good! I am not sure how filling it would be for around 10 dollars though.
