Maybe it’s my old age but a few years back prior to COVID most of the bars in DuPont didn’t have a Cover but I am noticing more wanting $20 to get in. Has anyone else experienced this?

There are enough bars in DC that you shouldn't ever have to pay a cover or wait in line unless it's a special event. A line on a normal night just means that they're at full capacity and that it's going to be miserable when you do finally get inside.

yeah i always say if a bar is asking for a cover it’s probably not one you wanna bother with. the only place i’ll pay a cover is madam’s organ for the live music and it’s like five or ten bucks

Same, madams organ is the last time I paid a cover and you can pay with a credit card. The live music is worth it.

Also be on the lookout for shady bouncers. I love bouncers but have encountered some bad apples. Had a bouncer mistake me for a tourist or something at the waterfront one day (one of the outside bars) and tell me it was a $20 cover. I busted out laughing and asked “for what?” He said he was just kidding. My guess is he scammed people like that all the time.

Pretty standard for places like Decades and Rose bar. DuPont has become bougie.
