I could theoretically do the long jump with a decent running start but I’ll have to practice a bit over the weekend before I feel so bold.
You can always just run up and down the escalators for free endurance training. And you can always go to failure because the escalator will just take over when you give up!
Keep an eye on the bill making its way through the DC council that would give DC residents $100 in metro fees a month. Latest news on it I can find was past September
The announcement yesterday regarding select free busses makes it sound like the $100 of metro fare per month is going to be delayed at least a couple years. Instead that money will be used to pay for the free bus service.

What kind of job do you have?
Communications Associate
It's a pretty hot field right now, you should push for a raise or start looking. Don't let your employer undervalue you
Yes. I know that. I just started this job not that long ago and they just secured a new space which is why it will be mandatory to report in. But until I have enough tenure to ask for a raise or have another offer letter in hand, I need to save money.
To be clear, I'm 100% in favor of you jumpinh the gates
Just make sure this stuff doesn’t come back to impact your employment status.

Do a flip and its cool
I will express no opinion on the OP, but I will observe that when I regularly rode the metro, I was stopped and harassed on numerous occasions by officers simply because my fare card didn’t always read properly. They’re capricious, drunk on power, and generally obnoxious.

Observant paying customer here. From what I've seen the easiest method is to push open the handicapped gate.
With that said, paying customers would strongly prefer that you get your knees in order and long jump the gate. It provides us with something to look at it while being on an otherwise boring commute.
